Kampar Famous: Kam Ling Chicken Curry Bread

Kam Ling Restaurant

If you ever plan on visiting Kampar, Perak, then you seriously do not want to miss its legendary famous food, the Kam Ling Chicken Curry bread.

Located one street next by the main road of Kampar Old Town, Kam Ling restaurant is the largest dining place on town. Having said as the largest restaurant on town, the place's spacious air-conditioned dining hall is literally among the top choices for major events such as wedding receptions and many more.

Living by its title as Kampar's iconic food, the Kam Ling Chicken Curry Bread received dozens of positive feedback and reviews from its customers and highly recommended to try from various blogs and medias.

“Lunch with the family”

We went to this restaurant. There is the old restaurant and the new restaurant next to each other. The new restaurant is airconditioned. We ordered their famous bread with chicken curry, Wah Tan Ho and Singapore fried mee. The Singapore fried mee was dry and pretty average. Their signature dish, chicken curry in the bread was also great. The bread was soft and tasty. The curry chicken was not spicy. I liked the presentation, with the waiter cutting the bread and presenting the dish to us.

Kam Ling - The History

Yau Kei', the original founder and creator of Kampar chicken curry bun had been around ever since 1980's. Few years after, Kam Ling followed by and opened their restaurant few blocks away as a follower and sells the chicken curry bread along. Born from another product creation of Herbal Chicken in which traditionally covered by soil, the creator of the legendary bun used flour instead of soil and filled the bun with tasty chicken curry.

What's so popular about It?

Once addicted, many people of different places are more than willing to travels all the way to Kampar just to have a taste of the Chicken curry bun. Not too spicy and not too bland, the curry is just at the right flavor that suits for everyone.

“Good dishes with friendly lady boss!”

The lady boss is very friendly and recommend us most of the famous dish like their signature curry chicken in bread, fried bitter gourd with egg soup are thumb up for this. We request some of the vegetarian food because we have vegan eater and she did customization for us and the taste are super delicious. The price is reasonable as 13 people only cost us RM200+. We will come back and take another visit again.

Enough with the curry chicken bun, Kam Ling also famous with another one of their signature noodles, 'Fried Sang Mee with Long Beans and Minced Pork'. Not only the dishes are tasty and delicious, it also comes with a reasonable price you can afford.

Kam Ling is also unique for its interior designs. for dining-in, you can choose to sit inside the air-conditioned and splendidly elegant three-floor building next to its original location; or you could also sit inside the old and classic eatery where you could still see the evidently old-timers still running the place. Kam Ling also offers wide variety of freshly-baked and pre-packed confectioneries that will make you go wild -Confectionery lovers, you have been warned!

The Chicken Curry Bread is available in 2 different sizes; RM22 for the medium sized bun (2-4 pax) and RM36 for large. unfortunately they do not serve the bun for one pax. So if you're planning to have them, might as well enjoy them with your friends and family (I guess there's a reason why its called a family restaurant).

What they say about It?

“Delicious curry bun”

Soft bun + piping hot delicious curry, what a heavenly combination! If you ever come to Kampar, this place is worth a visit. Remember to visit the original shop though, for a more authentic & nostalgic feel!

“Good food at reasonable price”

The food is excellent especially the curry chicken bread and home-made noodles. The noodles were delicious and the vegetable was fresh as they grown locally. It must have something to do with the ground water this area. The price is reasoanble. For five of us, the price came up to less than RM60 inclusive GST and service!

“Famous for its curry chicken in bread”

Having heard of its famous food we decided to try the famous Kam Ling curry bun. True to its reputation, we were not disappointed when it comes to taste. The curry gravy was rich with generaous amount of coconut milk. We ordered a small size for 4 adults. we suggest you to try its signature 'Sang Mee' which is really tasty with chopped, fried dried shrimps. Price wise, it came up to RM42 with a pot of Chinese tea.
